FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 10, 2019)
Saskatoon Community Foundation partners with Cameco to present the Cameco Fund for Mental Health. This new granting program will provide $400,000 for mental health projects and programming throughout Saskatchewan.
Two thousand runners and walkers stepped up May 11, 2019, as part of the inaugural Step Up for Mental Health 5K/10K in Saskatoon. Their efforts helped raise $400,000 for mental health projects and programming. Every dollar from registration fees, plus a matching amount from Cameco, supports the Cameco Fund for Mental Health. All funds raised will be disbursed to organizations undertaking projects that promote or protect mental health. Step Up for Mental Health was established by Cameco in partnership with Brainsport, the Saskatoon Community Foundation and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Applications for funding will be adjudicated by a panel that includes mental health professionals, as well as representatives from Cameco and Saskatoon Community Foundation.
“A key role of Saskatoon Community Foundation is to assist donors and corporate partners in achieving their social and philanthropic goals. We have worked with Cameco for many years to support community organizations,” says Carm Michalenko, Executive Director of Saskatoon Community Foundation. “Raising $400,000 to support mental health throughout Saskatchewan represents an unprecedented opportunity for organizations of all sizes to improve the quality of life in their communities.”
The grant program is open to registered charities and other “qualified donees,” non-profits, and organized groups. The deadline for online applications is October 17, 2019.
