Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation

Supported in 2017 by a grant from the Community Fund for Canada’s 150th, and 2018 through 2021 by an inaugural grant from the Community Fund for Reconciliation, the Rock Your Roots Walk for Reconciliation is a central event revealing the groundswell of support for reconciliation in our community.

Held annually since 2016 on June 21, National Indigenous People’s Day, participation has grown from approximately 2500 in 2016 to 4000 in 2017 and 4500 in 2018. School groups, businesses and individuals from diverse backgrounds walk together to symbolize the community’s desire to work together. Afterwards in Victoria Park, speakers honour survivors of residential schools, while drummers, singers and dancers celebrate indigenous culture and inspire the people of Saskatoon to heal from the hurts of the past and create a future in which every child matters and all have equal opportunities to participate in an inclusive community.
