YES Grants for Kids in Meadowgreen

Categories: Blog, Community, Grant, Youth

The Meadowgreen Youth Program operated by Mennonite Central Committee is a 2022 Youth Endowment Saskatoon (YES) grant recipient that supports youth, promotes intercultural relationships, and addresses racism.

The Meadowgreen Youth Program operated by Mennonite Central Committee offers a weekly kids club for children ages 8-12 in the Meadowgreen neighbourhood, with sharing circles, cooperative games, and field trips. It also provides a weekly afterschool homework club with educational support, a weeklong summer peace camp, and special events for skills such as cooking, arts, and engineering.

The program gives young people a free, safe, inclusive space to gather, without discrimination around race, religion, ethnicity, gender, or sexuality, in an area of the city that often sees poverty, racism, and gentrification. Youth gain peacebuilding and pre-employment skills that will serve them for the rest of their lives.

Youth Endowment Saskatoon (YES) is supported by Saskatoon Community Foundation donors and fundholders who have a special place in their heart for children and youth. YES granting decisions are determined by the Youth Advisory Council, in partnership with the Students Commission of Canada.
