The late radio personality Denny Carr was born in Vancouver and started his nearly four-decade radio career in Quesnel, BC. His natural talent lead him to Williams Lake, Lloydminster and eventually CFQC in the 1960’s where he spent 17 years entertaining listeners with his on-air partner, the late Wally Stambuck. Denny continued to co-host the morning show with other broadcasters on CFQC including Steve Shannon and later with Rod Kitter on CJWW until has passing in 1999.
Denny was a tireless community supporter, dedicating his time and energy to numerous charitable causes. His biggest accomplishment was establishing Secret Santa in 1983, with the vision of ensuring that all of Saskatoon’s children receive a new toy at Christmas. Over a 40-year span, well over 100,000 children and 55,000 families in need have been assisted with toys, books, and food hampers at Christmas. In 2000, the Secret Santa Foundation was established to continue this important work, honoring Denny’s belief that one person can make a difference.
In 1999, Denny was honoured with Canada’s highest honour, the Order of Canada for his contributions to better people’s lives in Saskatoon.
