To Ellen Remai, and her late husband Frank, personal fulfillment always meant more than being successful in business. “You can have all the wealth in the world. If you don’t share it, what do you have,” asks Ellen. Her answer to this question is obvious, as she says Frank’s belief in giving people a hand up to self-sufficiency lead to the establishment of the Frank and Ellen Remai Foundation in 1992. Ellen’s interest in the charities supported by the foundation is evident as she describes the role of such organizations as Tamara’s House, Saskatoon Community Service Village and Habitat for Humanity. “The community has been very good to us in a lot of ways an it feels good to give back,” says the businesswoman, who worked with her husband at PR Developments, and operated Chez Elene women’s wear for 18 years. Ellen describes establishing a fund at Saskatoon Community Foundation as “another way of sharing.” Saskatoon Community Foundation distributes grants in a different way than the Frank and Ellen Remai Foundation, therefore extends the Remai’s impact.
