Saskatoon Community Foundation was advised January 23, 1992, of a very generous bequest from Mr. Frank Germaine, who passed away November 16, 1991, at the age of 98. Mr. Germaine had left Saskatoon Foundation in excess of $450,000.
Mr. Germaine was born in Reston, Manitoba in 1894, and he moved to Saskatoon in the early 1920’s. He set up his own insurance business, Germaine Insurance, which he managed until the 1980’s when he sold it to retire. He was an avid curler, a charter member of Nutana Curling Rink, and a senior curler at Hub City Curling Club. Mr. Germaine often said that “everyone who participated in sports was a winner, irrespective of the outcome.” He was an historian of note and was fascinated with the history of Saskatoon. He was proud to be a member of our community. Mr. Germaine believed firmly in the best of others.
Saskatoon Community is honoured to be the custodian of Mr. Germaine’s estate. The proceeds from the investment of his estate will greatly enhance the quality of life for many in our community in the years ahead. We are deeply appreciative of his caring spirit.
