Who We Are: The Saskatoon Council on Aging [SCOA] is a non-profit organization and registered charity. SCOA is a valued community resource hub for older adults 55 plus in Saskatoon and area, caregivers and those who work with older adults. SCOA operates a Resource Centre and a Caregiver Information Centre as well as a full range of age-friendly programs and services.
Our Story: The Saskatoon Council on Aging (SCOA) sprang into life over three decades ago as a result of Discover Choices, a 1988 federal health promotion workshop for seniors and those working with seniors. Wilma Mollard of Saskatoon attended that workshop, which concluded that cities needed “a co-ordinating, networking kind of organization” for seniors. She shared what she had learned with like-minded older adults in Saskatoon. Together they discovered their choice: To establish such an organization in the City of Bridges. In 1990, an interim board was elected, and SCOA was formally launched in 1991.
MISSION: To promote dignity, health and independence of older adults through education, programs and services and policy advocacy.
