Types of Funds

Types of Funds

Endowed Funds

Donor Designated Funds are established by you, the donor, to support one or more specific charitable organizations in perpetuity. The foundation makes disbursements each year to this charity/these charities.

Field of Interest Funds are established by donors who wish to support a charitable field such as arts, education, environment, health, social sector, or youth. Based on the donor’s field of interest, the Foundation selects appropriate projects to support.

The Donor Designated Fund and Field of Interest Fund offer you as the donor the ability to personalize your legacy gift in a way that reflects your life, your family, and your values.

  • A single donation may be directed to one or many charities;
  • Your gift is endowed and your designated charity/charities will receive grants in perpetuity;
  • You may make a single gift or many gifts over the years;
  • A donor may create a Designated Fund with cumulative giving totaling over $10,000.

Donor Advised Funds

With Donor Advised Funds, donors are empowered and encouraged to be actively involved each year in recommending recipient charities. Donors seeking the maximum flexibility and control in directing the annual grants from their gifts may establish Donor-Advised Funds.

  • Once you establish your Donor Advised Fund, the foundation will contact you each year for instruction on how to disburse the grants from your fund;
  • You may choose to support a charity of personal significance, identify new charities to support, or allocate funds for emerging community needs determined by the Saskatoon Community Foundation Grants Committee;
  • Your gift is endowed and the interest earned will create grants in perpetuity;
  • You may make a single gift or many gifts over the years;
  • A donor may create a Donor Advised Fund with cumulative giving totaling over $50,000.

Community Funds

With an unrestricted donation to a Community Fund, the foundation will allocate funds for emerging community needs as determined by the Saskatoon Community Foundation Grants Committee each year. Community Funds allow the foundation most flexibility to respond to changing community issues. Over 100 charities benefit from Community Funds annually.

  • Your gift is not designated to a specific charity at the time of donation;
  • Gifts are pooled and invested as part of the Give YXE Fund;
  • Every year, the interest earned is used to create grants for charities, determined by the Grants Committee;
  • You may make a single gift or many gifts over the years;
  • Once your cumulative giving reaches the Named Fund threshold of $5,000, you may establish an unrestricted Named Fund to create your personal legacy.

Fully Disbursable Charitable Funds

With a Fully Disbursable Charitable Fund, the foundation will follow your instructions in disbursing your entire donation to one or many charities of your choice over a time frame that you decide. This type of fund offers you as the donor the ability to experience the impact of giving to your community in the near term while enjoying the simplicity of giving through the foundation.

  • A single donation may be directed to one or many charities;
  • You determine the time frame when your fund is disbursed;
  • The foundation can accept donated securities on behalf of small charities who do not have established brokerage accounts;
  • Your fund will have its own donation page so you can invite others to join you in giving or make tribute gifts on special occasions.
