Community Organizations Receive $566K through Collective Giving

Saskatoon, June 15, 2022—Saskatoon Community Foundation announced $566 thousand in funding for 50 community-based organizations and partnerships, thanks to the philanthropists who direct their charitable giving through the foundation.

The announcement included:

  • $372,285 in Quality of Life grants for 28 organizations;
  • $118,396 in Community Fund for Reconciliation grants for 7 partnerships; and
  • $75,300 in Youth Endowment Saskatoon grants for 15 organizations.

“Saskatoon Community Foundation stands behind community organizations—who work hard to deliver programs, serve vulnerable populations, provide leadership, and secure funding for their organizations,” said Carm Michalenko, Saskatoon Community Foundation CEO.

“Our fundholders and donors place their confidence in us to support positive change in our community, and we are honoured to create a bridge between charity and donor.”

The collective impact of Saskatoon Community Foundation’s three core community granting programs—Quality of Life, Community Fund for Reconciliation, and Youth Endowment Saskatoon—is accomplished through endowments, donations, and the large, pooled investment managed by the foundation. Philanthropists choose unrestricted funds, directing foundation staff to steward their funds and make recommendations for strategic granting decisions.

Saskatoon Community Foundation grant recipients, donors, and volunteers gathered for the annual Many Voices Together grants celebration on June 8th at Gordie Howe Events Centre. The program featured speakers from Inclusion Saskatoon, Core Neighbourhood Youth Co-op and Wanuskewin, with performances by Tomorrow’s Voices and the Leleka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble.

Since it was founded in 1970, Saskatoon Community Foundation has directed over $51 million for charitable programs and local community initiatives. It supports over 280 organizations every year and represents over 350 fundholders.
