Nutrien Saskatoon Community Foundation Cultural Gala Rescheduled to 2021
Due to COVID-19 and the current uncertainty about when large gatherings will once again be permitted, safe and appropriate for our stakeholders, the Saskatoon Community Foundation Board of Directors and Planning Committee for the Nutrien Saskatoon Community Foundation Cultural Gala have rescheduled the 2020 event, Walk with the Wind, to September 18, 2021.
Over the past 13 years since 2007, the Nutrien Saskatoon Community Foundation Cultural Gala has raised over $3.8 million for community organizations. Though the Gala always brought Saskatoon’s diverse cultures together, since 2017 it has focused on raising awareness and funds for reconciliation in the community. Over $330,000 has been granted to partnerships among Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations answering the national Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 calls to action. Supporting the Community Fund for Reconciliation, Walk with the Wind will be last installment themed around the four elements, following water, fire and earth in 2017, 2018, and 2019 respectively.
Gala Cultural Advisors Eugene and Lorna Arcand share their hope and appreciation regarding the community’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that it does reflect what Reconciliation is about. Residential School Survivor Eugene notes that “At some point, there will be some balance. We pray that balance comes soon. We are all in this together. If we can all come together for a challenge like this, you can imagine what a powerful society we could be”.
To address the funding issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic for so many organizations, the Saskatoon Community Foundation Board has committed to disburse $100,000 through the Community Fund for Reconciliation, regardless of the event being postponed.
We welcome all to come together to Walk with the Wind on September 18, 2021.
